Nestlé Purina Petcare (/pjʊˈriːnə/), or simply Purina, is an American subsidiary of Nestlé, based in St. Louis, Missouri. It produces and markets pet food, treats, and cat litter. Some of its pet food brands include Purina Pro Plan, Purina Dog Chow, Friskies, Beneful and Purina ONE. The company was formed in 2001 by combining Nestlé's Friskies Petcare Company with Ralston Purina, which acquired it for $10.3 billion. As of 2012, it is the second-largest pet food company globally and the largest in the United States.

Lauren deeply regrets her decision and shares her experience in consumeraffairs.com, "We started feeding my dog Purina Dog Chow because it was cheaper. Within two weeks, my dog went from healthy to DEAD. Lethargy, loss of appetite, occasional vomiting. Finally liver, gallbladder and intestinal SWELLING. Her liver failed and the vets couldn't figure out what had happened. But after seeing other reviews of very, very similar experiences with their pets, I'm convinced this dog food killed my pet. Please do not feed your dogs this kind of dog food."

Maintenance Technician (Current Employee) says

"They do not follow their own policies. I have been here almost a year and still have not been given any of the required safety equipment. No fall protection, no access to tools or supplies. Need a day off? Only way you will get it is to call off and take a point. Get sick need to take off, get a point. Got something you want to do on your time off? Your gonna get forced in for overtime or take a point. Management is so worried about other things rather than getting the employees what they need to do the job that they want them to do. Not to mention they are so quick to tell you how you should be doing your job but they can’t even do their own job. The sad part here is you have 20 percent of the employees who get worked to death while the other 80 percent get praised taking credit for the 20 percent who do work. If you have a life or family go somewhere else, if not you will never get to really be apart of their lives. Cons: Everything"

Forklift Operator (Former Employee) says

"Have you given up on your life? Do you want to constantly get lied to day in and day out by management? Oh boy well do I have the job for you come on down to nestle purina prison camp in mechanicsburg where you will get a mandatory 72 hour work week every week! Sure you get paid well and have mediocre benefits but if you have a wife and kids you can kiss them goodbye because at nppc they don't care about you or your family. They will consider remind you how they have a life and how you dont in all the stupid meetings they have! So if your kinky and like to be degraded come on down to nppc youll get your prison badge and uniform within a month! They give you two weeks vacation and a week of floating holiday to start out with but you surely won't be using that because they will deny you every time! And if thats not enough if you have a family emergency they give you a point! And the best part is from day one at orientation you get lied to!! So come on down to nestle purina prison camp in mechanicsburg pa and well show you what he!! looks like! Cons: everything"

Quality Assurance Specialist (Former Employee) says

"Managment doesn't know what is going on there. The plant is a place for your spouse to cheat. No disciplinary action when it comes to fraternizing. Run"

Quality Assurance Specialist (Former Employee) says

"Managment knows what is going on there. No disciplinary action when fraternizing. Employees have too much time too many places to hide no supervision."

Production Worker (Current Employee) says

"Horrible place to work, if you don’t die from the heat, the huge flies will tote you off. No adequate training programs or support. Management is looking to point fingers and to throw people under the buss to save their butts at all costs. Human Resources issue write ups without proper investigation and shows extreme favoritism. Cons: No breaks, unsanitary working conditions, inadequate training."

LINE (Former Employee) says

"DUNKIRK site is RACIST. The upper management treat their employees like scum. One of the richest companies in the world and they give 0 cares about human life. Cons: Racist"

millfitter (Current Employee) says

"There millfitter training program is a joke. They dont send new guys to work with experienced workers. All the SOP are generic. How is it on the job training when no one is training? They tell you to report foreign objects fall in product with no repercussions but suspend you when you take the right steps. But not to the guy who didn't report it and costs the company 600,000 dollars Cons: poor management, worthless HR"

Production Worker (Former Employee) says

"If you like sucking fat ones to get to the top, this is the job for you. HORRIBLE management and I’ve worked some HORRIBLE jobs. It’s just a big hook up fest up there and a dang colt within the management! The maintenance managers are a complete joke. No experience at ALL. Such bullcrap led the maintenance department to unionize. management is in a dang clique of some sort and out to fire ANYONE that doesn’t agree with them.Do NOT leave your job for this place, you’ll get fired for these reasons—1) honest 2) know how to do your job and last but not least 3) get fired over LOTO that is completely DOUBLE STANDARDIZED.... Needless to say if you are a horrible person but can kiss enough butt to keep your job, then good luck!"

Warehouse Clerk (Former Employee) says

"If you like doing your job and the jobs of two higher paid employees then this is for you. Outdated computer programs. They don’t like ideas for improvement because they think everything is fine. Under staffed shuttle service."

IT Specialist (Former Employee) says

"I learn nothing from purina. The management make me stress out. Also the HR is helping the management the hardest job is the manager is not helping you."

Logistic Coordinator (Current Employee) says

"It feels like your in night school if u don’t have a click your out be prepared to not have time for your family friends or sleep. They will force you out if they don’t like you no matter what. Hr doesn’t care and will not do anything for you at all. They flat out don’t give a dang about you"

light assembly (Former Employee) says

"You show up at guard shack (1st come, 1st served). Guard lets you in and then you can punch time clock. Report to assigned station and do light assembly. Since you don't work at Purina directly but thru ESB there is no job security at all. High turnover rate in employees."

Undercover boss (Former Employee) says

"The place is an absolute abolishing mistake. Cons: None just a bad sad boring life & future"

Engineer (Current Employee) says

"I would not recommend working here. It is very stressful work environment. I believe the staff is under paid for the performance that they are doing in the eight hour shift."

RDC Warehouse Shift Leader (Former Employee) says

"You have 6 uneducated demotivated people in your team to do 20 peoples job. Do not work in Hungary again. Management is professionally incompetent, amateurs! people are underpaid and always complaining. Cons: Not enough staff"

Maintenance Technician (Former Employee) says

"The management Department is extremely strict and they do not follow their own guidelines. They are always in a hurry to try to get rid of people for violating safety rules and sometimes the rules are made up as they go. They will tell you have the weekend off and then suddenly you must work. You will put in for vacation time so that you can spend time with your family, and they will be telling you that they are too busy you cannot take it. You will eventually get sick of the people you work around. Because you will be around them seven days a week. you will get tired of the place and you will quit. Cons: Management, hours, new vacation, followed around all the time by management."

Operator (Current Employee) says

"I was hired to be a forklift operator in the distribution center . After several years and training countless new employees for them , they eliminated my position . You pay Union dues to a Union that does nothing for you . Cons: Disgusting, dirty, and smells horrible ."

Production Worker (Former Employee) says

"Don't do it. The only job I have ever really had any regret about. A waste of 3 years of my life and my family's life. 4 years later and still would rather do anything than ever work for Nestlé again. Cons: all of it"

Former Employee - Marketing Associate says

"I worked at Nestlé Purina U.S. full-time for less than a year Cons: If you don’t perform at a high level within 6 weeks, you’ll most likely be fired. If you want a company that values good, hardworking employees please do not seek employment here. If you want leadership that helps develop associates and truly wants them to succeed you should look elsewhere. They will tell you what you want to hear, then do the opposite. Biggest regret of my professional life was accepting a FT role with this awful company."

Former Employee - Maintenance Technician says

"I worked at Nestlé Purina U.S. full-time for more than a year Cons: Long hours, back stabbers, poor leadershkl"

Current Employee - Forklift Operator says

"I have been working at Nestlé Purina U.S. full-time for more than 5 years Cons: Last year nestle approved literature being posted in all major entrances of the Allentown plant in regards to "celebrating diversity, transgender, and LGBTQ community" taking part in discussions and events surrounding all of this. Fast forward to covid 19 times, nestle has mandated that all employees must wear masks or risk losing there job, even though H.R 836 has passed through bi-partisan legislation. Nestle as a private company has the right to mandate the wearing of masks to all its employees. Last week a employee started handing out masks that have the Trump 2020 logo on the front. This made H.R frown and immediate action had to be taken. The employee has been reprimanded on terms of political talk and the masks could no longer be distributed but I thought nestle wanted us to celebrate diversity. I guess this means celebrating everything other than supporting our president."

Current Employee - Computer Specialist, All Other says

"I have been working at Nestlé Purina U.S. full-time for more than 8 years Cons: Management and Team lead consistancies are non-existent, schedules are always changing to accommodate a new boss. Discipline is determined by how well you are liked and not your performance. They do not follow their own rules for discipline and it is also varies by your job title."

Former Employee - Buying says

"I worked at Nestlé Purina U.S. full-time for more than 3 years Cons: There was quite a bit of the Ol' boy network garbage going on, 1983 is long gone."

Former Employee - Senior Human Resources Generalist says

"I worked at Nestlé Purina U.S. full-time for more than 5 years Cons: Managers who are leading people need to be trained in emotional intelligence. There is an overwhelming lack of empathy, compassion and downright decency. Associates dropping like flies. Preach project agility but not promoted at the executive level."

Current Employee - Machine Operator says

"I have been working at Nestlé Purina U.S. full-time for more than 10 years Cons: Management change needed at plant. Very stale environment. Management is busy throwing around verbiage such as safety first. However, do not follow safety protocols to keep employees safe. We had an exfoliation in process 4 and we were all told not to discuss."

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I have been working at Nestlé Purina U.S. full-time for more than 8 years Cons: Very poor Senior Leadership across the organization. Leadership lacks people skills and strategic ability to lead us into the future. Parent company even has more problems. Senior Leaders won't admit but the goal of Nestle is to eliminate a ton of jobs across the U.S. and consolidate all Nestle OPCO's in Arlington VA. Currently the Arlington office is less than 50% full with the goal to have all Nestle employees including Purina to work out of that location. You are seeing consolidation in Sales, IT, with other departments coming. The philosophy is that 1 office is much cheaper than 5. Obviously this does not consider the needs of our customers and consumers and is not a winning strategy."

Former Employee - Manager says

"I worked at Nestlé Purina U.S. full-time for more than 8 years Cons: A lack of open culture has shut Purina out of the market place. Used to be a place where you could speak and have that change heard instead of assimilating into the political boys club."

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I worked at Nestlé Purina U.S. full-time for less than a year Cons: There are some very unprofessional people working here, especially in the PTC."

Karen says

"Customer service is none existent!!...I held on telephone for forty minuets earlier today waiting to speak to someone! Team members’ are none existent!!!"

Emmie says

"The Purina Cat Chow Indoor is the only thing my (5)Cats will eat plus it is good for them regardless if a cat is indoor or outdoor. I give them 3 stars because customer service isn't all that great, trying to enter in points once to redeem for merchandise and I was hung up on or something to that. Needless to say it wasn't worth the trouble let alone their merchandise to redeem points for they want way too many points and one can only enter in so many a month before getting blocked from entering any for 90 days or so or at least it is for me. Thinking of trying to get my cats used to another indoor dry cat food."
